Bloggin' in the Wind

I feel like I had a great start working on my blog, Minoqcued Up.  If you haven't had time to check it out then, look around, you're here.  Since my last post my family has joined me on this Northern Mis-Adventure.  I went back to Bemidji, MN to load up the family and cart them back to Wisconsin at the end of February.  We left a day early because a sudden snowstorm was headed our way!  We loaded up with clothing, food, animals and headed out in the middle of the night.  We managed to stay ahead of the storm the entire way.  I couldn't help but feel like we were playing a game of Oregon Trail as we had both vehicles fully loaded and created our own caravan headed East.  We even had to forge a river and I died of dysentery.

We made a brief stop in Independence so we could trade supplies to fix our wagon.  We ran into some kin-folk and they sent us off with some moonshine.  Ma likes the moonshine.

So the family traveled through the thick darkness of night headed to a new home.  I had already been here a couple of months but it was a new venture for my wife and son.  Before their arrival I had been "nesting."  I had cleaned the entire apartment from top to bottom.  I rearranged furniture, scrubbed toilets and floors, vaccuumed and shampood floors, performed a seance and burned sage.

We arrived at 1am and by 2am we had moved most of our belongings inside.  We were exhausted but I was too excited to sleep!  I finally had my family back together under one roof.  Kendall was passed out on the couch and Karen was tired.  I had a smile cemented on my face.

The next few days were spent getting adjusted.  Karen & Kendall had arranged to take some time off of work and school.  We had already sent one of our beloved dogs off to live with another family and it was time for our oldest, Izzy, to go.  Karen and Kendall took Izzy to live with Karen's mother in Southern Wisconsin.  Izzy had been with us even before Kendall was born.  We got her the spring that we got engaged.  She was our truly first family puppy.  It was hard to let her go but we knew that we we're pushing it by having one dog in the small apartment.

We had to eat one and make the other one into mittens just to stay alive.  Well, we didn't have to but, you know.

Towards the end of the first week Kendall and I became very ill.  For about 24 hours we were laid up in his bedroom.  I missed a day of work and Kendall missed his first day of school.  With Karen playing nurse (not in an awesome/naughty way) and our friend Julie's homemade soup, we quickly recovered.

Since then we've settled into our routines.  I take Kendall to school everyday (and I love it), Karen gets to work from home (she loves it), and we spend a lot of time together playing games, taking Charlie (the dog) for walks, and being together.

Now that spring is here we've got new activities like baseball, soccer, and kayaking.  We even ALL competed in a midnight 5K!  More on that to come in another post.

But the best part about all of this and all that we went throught to get here is that now we are together.  Now I can go to bed every night looking at the ones I love.  Now I can wake up every morning listening to a little boy in his jammies watching cartoons and clanging his spoon on his bowl of cereal.  And I no longer have to sleep alone, I have someone to stick their freezing feet on me as I drift off to sleep.
